Assessing Skin Hyperextensibility

  • Ask patient to pinch the first layer of skin only and gently pull up until it meets resistance.​

  • Test at the volar surface of the forearm (see video below) and dorsum of hand.​

  • Measure using a measuring tape. Measure from the base of where the skin starts to stretch to where it it stops stretching.

Note: If skin hyperextension is noted to be over 2 cm we may request you send a photograph indicating skin hyperextension
