Assessing Skin Hyperextensibility

Ask patient to pinch the first layer of skin only and gently pull up until it meets resistance.

Test at the volar surface of the forearm (see video below) and dorsum of hand.

Measure using a measuring tape. Measure from the base of where the skin starts to stretch to where it it stops stretching.
Note: If skin hyperextension is noted to be over 2 cm we may request you send a photograph indicating skin hyperextension
